2008 Annual Dinner sets New Record

Almost $370,00 raised to support Center's work

Nearly 800 people attended the Center’s 2008 Annual Dinner on April 15, when it was announced that a new fundraising benchmark had been set for this event – a gross of almost $370,000.

David Sallee, who co-chaired the annual dinner with his wife Mary, expressed special appreciation to seven major sponsors who accounted for almost half the amount raised.

The evening also featured an announcement indicating progress in the effort to raise $3 million to establish the Rosemary Flanigan Chair at the Center for Practical Bioethics. Norman Rotert, Center board member and co-chair of the endowment committee, said more than $1.7 million has been raised thus far.

In addition, an anonymous donor has offered to match the next $500,000 raised to help complete fundraising for the chair. In response, almost $40,000 in additional in cash and pledges were collected for the Flanigan Chair that night.

Beth Smith and Bill Colby were honored with the Center's Vision to Action Award.

The keynote speaker was Lee Woodruff, wife of Bob Woodruff of ABC-TV News. The pair authored a book, In an Instant, that chronicled their family’s challenges after Bob’s serious injury in Iraq. She noted the importance of the Center's Caring Conversations booklet in promoting discussions families need to have before a serious illness or injury.
