Medical futility focus of Practical Bioethics

Early stem cell research also grabbed headlines, as the Center sought common ground on this issue through the Science and Ethics Literacy Project.

Advisory Council and Physician Steering Committee Named for Medical Outreach Project
December 9, 2005

The advisory council, chaired by Wynn Presson, will guide the project from its present status as a Phase I strategic planning initiative to a Phase II stage of metro-wide implementation. The physician steering committee, chaired by Gary Pettett, MD, will be charged to review successful regional and national models for providing specialty care, and to make recommendations regarding what will be needed to best achieve project goals.

Center, LINC collaborate on quality/ethics initiative for long-term care
State of Missouri supports with $75,000

Following a year of preparation, a quality initiative is underway to address, avoid and resolve ethical issues in long-term care facilities in five counties in the Kansas City area and across the state. The initiative involves the Center for Practical Bioethics and the Local Investment Commission (LINC), funded in part by $75,000 from the State of Missouri's Department of Social Services.
