Certificate in Clinical Ethics & Health Policy

** Accepting Applications for the Fall 2013 class!

Design of the Program
The Certificate in Clinical Ethics and Health Policy program is for professionals whose work is intertwined with healthcare. The program gives students the tools to identify, understand and analyze ethical issues and is designed for healthcare practitioners as well as administrators, risk managers, researchers, academics, journalists, lawyers, etc.

Curriculum & Tuition
The Certificate Program consists of three courses taught by nationally recognized faculty: two, 12-week classes offered online and one onsite course. The two online classes complement each other and may be elected concurrently or consecutively. The 7-day Intensive course is elected after successful completion of both online courses and is convened in Kansas City, Missouri.

The program is designed to provide students with flexibility to meet their professional and personal commitments. The curriculum may be completed as quickly as 6 months or students may elect to take up to 3 years for completion. The full curriculum conforms to both the knowledge and skill competencies established by the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities as set forth in the second edition of Core Competencies for Healthcare Ethics Consultation.

The Certificate Program in Clinical Ethics and Health Policy is approved to operate by both the Kansas Board of Regents and the Missouri Department of Higher Education. Transcripts will be issued for coursework completed along with a state-approved Certificate of Completion at the end of the program.

Total tuition for the program is $7,500 ($2,500 for each online class and for the Intensive).  Tuition does not include the costs of printing, Internet access, or other materials necessary to complete online coursework.  Any additional reference material is optional.  The tuition does not include transportation or lodging for the onsite Intensive in Clinical Ethics and Health Policy in Kansas City, but is inclusive of a minimum of 2 meals per day, during the 7-day Intensive.

Program Objectives

The Program has four objectives:

1. To provide innovative and rigorous graduate level certificate program training in clinical ethics and health policy,

2. To make ethics education possible for students at all phases of professional development,

3. To provide a high level of professor-student contact, and

4. To link the curriculum of the program to the comprehensive work, resources and relationships of the Center for Practical Bioethics.

The Spring 2013 class is forming with both online classes beginning February 6 through April 30, 2012. The Intensive is scheduled for May 11-17, 2013.  For more information contact the Director of Graduate Studies, Sandra Silva, JD, at ssilva@practicalbioethics.org or 816-979-1366 (direct).
