Gordon Kelley, MD

Dr. Gordon Kelley is a neurologist who has practiced in the Kansas City area since 1983. He has directed the Stroke Program at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission since 1999. He was President of the Medical Staff from 2020-2022 and served on the hospital Board of Directors from 2018-2024. He has a longstanding interest in the neurobiology of consciousness and the relationships between medicine and spirituality. He was one of the charter members of the AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Physician-Clergy Dialogue Group in 2005, which still meets monthly, along with Dr. Terry Rosell, who recently retired from the Center as the Rosemary Flanigan Chair. He loves music and has created more than 20 playlists of secular music devoted to issues discussed by the group (which can be found on Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music by searching for “Physician-Clergy” under playlists). He serves on the hospital’s Ethics Committee and has been a strong advocate of palliative care and advance directives.
Dr. Kelley received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Alberta in 1974, and his MD from the University of Calgary in 1977. He did a residency in Internal Medicine at Medical College of Wisconsin 1977-80 and in Neurology at Baylor College of medicine 1980-83. He holds certification in Internal Medicine and Neurology with special certification in Electrodiagnostic Medicine and Vascular Neurology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. He is married with two daughters and seven grandchildren.
